In 2006, Max Sapp, was drafted as the first-round pick in hopes that he would emerge as a future player for the Houston Astros. Just two years later, Sapp is being hospitalized in Orlando, FL for two weeks now, with a case of meningitis.
Sapp, 20, has been breathing with the help of a respirator because he is unable to breath on his own because of occasional seizures.
Sapp, a catcher, was selected No. 23 overall in the 2006 draft out of Bishop Moore High School in Orlando but has struggled as a pro. In three seasons, he’s hitting .224 with seven homers and 81 RBIs in 736 career at-bats. He spent his second consecutive year at Class A Salem in 2008 and hit .200 with four homers and 29 RBIs.
Let's hope he recovers well, and is back playing what he loves shortly. It is unsure how is illness will affect him for the upcoming season.
